JAMES GORDON POTTER Gordon died peacefully on March 17, 2008. He was the son of, and predeceased by, Jack Potter and Edna Potter (Chunn). He is survived by his three sisters: Jean Morrow and her husband Ken, Joyce Potter, and Shirley Tate and her husband John, as well as five nephews: Kevin, Laurie, Andrew, David and Jayson, and three nieces: Rhonda, Megan and Sara. Gord was born February 5, 1943, and grew up on the family farm in the Floral District near Pilot Mound. After graduating from high school, Gord earned his Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture (1965) and embarked on a lifetime career in agribusiness. In the early 1970s he moved to Alberta, where he remained until the fall of 2006 when he returned to Manitoba to be close to his sisters and their families during his terminal illness. They will remember the courage and dignity he displayed during his final weeks and the year of good times they all enjoyed with him before he was confined to hospital in January 2008. In Alberta, Gord made many loyal friends who continued to visit and call right up to his death and the family is grateful to them for the joy they brought to his life while he lived in Alberta and the comfort they gave him during his illness. His sisters and their husbands will carry Gord's ashes to Alberta so his friends can throw him one last party, and then we will scatter his ashes on the golf course where he spent many happy hours. Gord loved life, but his calm acceptance of the inevitability of his death made the last weeks much easier for the family and in gratitude we will hold a come and go commemoration in the Pilot Mound Friendship Centre on Sunday, March 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friends are invited to come and reminisce with the family about Gord's life. Boundary Trails Hospital made his last difficult days comfortable and peaceful. Friends wishing to do so can send donations to Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Program, Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, Box 2000, Station Main, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8, or to any charity of their choice.
